About the Neerpede pond
The pond of the Pede is located in the municipality of Anderlecht - in the part outside the Ring 0 - Neerpede. Etang de la Pede is part of a series of water bodies located in the Neerpedebeek valley. In the early 1960s, a major project planned the urbanization of the Neerpede Valley. Despite strong local opposition, the project was still carried out in part in conjunction with the construction of the ringroad and the Erasmus hospital. In the 1980s, the land in question was bought by the public authorities in order to create sports areas, parks and a stormwater basin. The Neerpede basin was developed in 1980 as a stormwater basin for the floods of the Neerpedebeek. It has a capacity of 50,000m³.
The Etang de la Pede functions as a storm basin directly linked to the Neerpedebeek. The main feeding point is to the northwest of the pond. The river's overflow flows west into a first basin created in 2008-2009 as a settling basin to limit siltation of the main basin. From this settling basin the water then drains to the pond itself. To the southwest, the pond is fed by a thin stream. The overflow from the pond then flows into the Neerpedebeek in its eastern part.
